Adele is worth a whopping £85million but her credit card has been declined at the tills of an H&M store.
The ‘mortified’ singer was attempting to pay for some affordable fashion items but had to cancel the transaction when the payment could not be authorised by her bank.
Describing the incident as ‘pretty embarrassing’, the red-faced Rolling in the Deep star insisted she was able to make some purchases in nearby store, Sephora, ahead of her gig at San Jose’s SAP arena on Sunday night.
She said: “I went to H&M and my card got declined. Oh my days, pretty embarrassing.
“Nobody knew it was me, but I was mortified.”
To add to her woes, her dachshund, Louie, then got into a scrap during the shopping trip.
She told the crowd: “My dog tried to claw another dog,” before adding sarcastically: “My trip to H&M was great... but no one knew it was me so I think I’m going to get away with it.”
While on tour in the US, Adele has been pictured shopping in discount store Target, wearing no makeup and dressed comfortably.
She visited the Glasgow Fort while on tour in Scotland in March, where she visited their local branch of H&M - where she had no banking issues - and Asda, as well as buying trainers for her children in Smyths.
A member of staff said at the time: “We didn’t recognise her at first until the person who served her came back and said, ‘Am I really serving Adele?”
It was previously reported that Adele was a fan of £1 Primark knickers , but she said she has had to stop visiting the discount store, saying earlier this year: “I used to shop at Primark for my knickers all the time. I loved going there and getting some bargains.
She is said to be Britain’s richest ever female musician
