Demi Lovato took history-making Virginia state legislator Danica Roem as her date to the American Music Awards on Sunday night (19Nov17).
Roem recently became the first transgender state legislator in the U.S. and she was rewarded by a big night out in Los Angeles.
Hitting the red carpet outside the Microsoft Theater on Sunday afternoon, Demi confessed she'd only met Danica minutes before at their hotel, but she was thrilled to be at the ceremony with a history maker.

"My performance is all about bullying and Danica has proven you can rise above that," she said. "It's great to meet her."
The politician, who clinched a House of Delegates election victory on 7 November (17), was also thrilled to meet the singer, adding, "She gives a voice to people who need a voice."

UPDATE: Robert Mugabe resisting Army pressure to quit, insists he is still president

President Robert Mugabe is insisting he remains Zimbabwe’s only legitimate ruler, an intelligence source said on Thursday, and is resisting mediation by a Catholic priest to allow the 93-year-old former guerrilla a graceful exit after a military coup.

The priest, Fidelis Mukonori, is acting as a middle-man between Mugabe and the generals, who seized power on Wednesday in a targeted operation against “criminals” in his entourage, a senior political source told Reuters.

The source could not provide details of the talks, which appear to be aimed at a smooth and bloodless transition after the departure of Mugabe, who has led Zimbabwe since independence in 1980.

Mugabe, still seen by many Africans as a liberation hero, is reviled in the West as a despot whose disastrous handling of the economy and willingness to resort to violence to maintain power destroyed one of Africa’s most promising states.

Zimbabwean intelligence reports seen by Reuters suggest that former security chief Emmerson Mnangagwa, who was ousted as vice-president this month, has been mapping out a post-Mugabe vision with the military and opposition for more than a year.

Fuelling speculation that that plan might be rolling into action, opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai, who has been receiving cancer treatment in Britain and South Africa, returned to Harare late on Wednesday, his spokesman said.

South Africa said Mugabe had told President Jacob Zuma by telephone on Wednesday that he was confined to his home but was otherwise fine and the military said it was keeping him and his family, including wife Grace, safe.

Despite the lingering admiration for Mugabe, there is little public affection for 52-year-old Grace, a former government typist who started having an affair with Mugabe in the early 1990s as his first wife, Sally, was dying of kidney disease.
Dubbed “DisGrace” or “Gucci Grace” on account of her reputed love of shopping, she enjoyed a meteoric rise through the ranks of Mugabe’s ruling ZANU-PF in the last two years, culminating in Mnangagwa’s removal a week ago – a move seen as clearing the way for her to succeed her husband.

In contrast to the high political drama unfolding behind closed doors, the streets of the capital remained calm, with people going about their daily business, albeit under the watch of soldiers on armoured vehicles at strategic locations.

Whatever the final outcome, the events could signal a once-in-a-generation change for the former British colony, a regional breadbasket reduced to destitution by economic policies Mugabe’s critics have long blamed on him. (Reuters)

Photos: Jealous 22-year-old wife stabs her husband, 62, to death because she found a condom in his pocket; dumps body into septic tank

A 22- year-old woman in Udon Thani, Thailand has been charged with murder after she admitted  stabbing her 62- year- old husband to death.

Argument ensued between Nittaya Saengdeuan and Amnuay Wensila after she found a condom in his trouser pocket and thought he was having an affair.

Saengdeuan stabbed Wensila multiple times until he was dead. She then stuffed his still warm corpse into a septic tank behind their garage.

Nittaya initially denied any involvement. But under intense interrogation she broke down and admitted what she had done and was then taken on a reenactment of her crime.

On Wednesday, November 15, the head of the Udon Thani provincial police Peerapong Wongsaman led a team in interrogating the suspect who had been apprehended by Nong Wua Sor officers.

Amnuay's curled up body was found in the septic tank at the house in Oup Mung sub-district.
Nittaya told the cops that she had found a condom in her husband's trousers and jealously believed he had a "gik" or other woman.

An argument developed and she stabbed him. He ran out to the garage and she chased him.

Then she stabbed him a further ten times until he was dead. Then she dragged the corpse and stuffed him down the septic tank.

She has been charged with murder with intent while police may add charges of removing and concealing a corpse to the rap sheet

United States lays claim to $300m Abacha loot

The United States has laid claim to $300 million stashed abroad by Nigeria's late military dictator, Sani Abacha.

According to reports, America allegedly told a court in an unnamed foreign country that it had an interest in the loot because it was saved in its currency, the US dollar. Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice Abubakar Malami (SAN) and rights activist Mr Femi Falana (SAN) made the claims in Lagos.

Falana also accused the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) of failing to remit over $21.7 billion since 1999. He urged the Federal Government to extend efforts to recover looted funds to “the few Nigerians who have been indicted in the Panama and Paradise papers. The EFCC and the Federal Inland Revenue Service should recover appropriate taxes from the offshore companies set up by such individuals,” Falana said.

Falana, who accused the United States, Switzerland, the UK and other western nations of hypocritical behaviour in Nigeria’s quest to recover loot stashed in their banks, identified the US as the country concerned.

He said: “Nigeria traced part of the Abacha loot (over $300m) to Jersey, an island in the United Kingdom. The Attorney-General filed a process to – by the way I was in that country when the person was convicted. The money left Nigeria through Kenya and landed in Jersey. It was from the late Abacha. Nigeria wanted to collect the remaining loot. But the United States filed an objection, saying the money could not be released to Nigeria. The court asked why; the US said if the money must be released, it should be released to the US government, so that ‘we can manage it for Nigeria. The other one, $321 million, Switzerland, a notorious conduit for corruption, had the temerity to say that ‘unless the World Bank is going to manage this money, we are not going to release this money.’”

Falana urged the Federal Government not to depend on the West in its loot recovery drive.

“The United Nations Convention Against Corruption has made adequate provisions against corruption, mandating countries to assist each other but western countries have not been helping us. Our government should stop relying on the west.”

He said he had advised, and the government was considering, suing foreign banks illegally holding onto funds stolen from Nigeria. He added: “From five cycles of independent audit reports covering 1999-2012 the National Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative revealed that the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, some oil companies and certain agencies of the Federal Government have withheld $20.2 billion from the Federation Account.

Nicki Minaj has unveiled her own "break the internet" issue of Paper magazine - which shows her having a threesome with herself on the cover.

The 'Anaconda' rapper is the front cover star of the Winter 2017 issue of the publication and she has posed for photographer Ellen Von Unwerth for a highly sexualised image which shows her sitting topless on a leopard skin chair with her legs spread wide open as two scantily clad 'clones' of her are draped across her in very suggestive poses, with one grabbing her breast.

At the bottom of the cover are the words "Minaj A Trois' - a wordplay on the phrase "menage a trois", which means to be engaged in a romance involving three people - and "Break The Internet", which is a reference to the Winter 2014 edition of Paper which featured Kim Kardashian West on the front baring her world famous butt covered in oil.

Nicki, 34, posted the Paper cover on her Twitter account along with the caption: "Wanna Minaj? @papermagazine photos by @ellenvonunwerth #BreakTheInternet edition (sic)"

The hip hop queen was given the responsibility to style the shoot herself and she uploaded a behind-the-scenes video to her Instagram page to show her followers the process.

In the footage, Nicki is seen kissing a 'clone' of herself and writhing around in a bath tub.

The cover was also posted on Instagram by Nicki and Kim, 37, threw her support behind the pop star's own attempt to "break the internet" by liking the image and commenting with three fire emojis.

Jennifer Lawrence punished for challenging director

Jennifer Lawrence felt like she was punished and branded "difficult" for standing up to a director she clashed with.

The Hunger Games actress is at the forefront of Hollywood's new female empowerment movement but she tells The Hollywood Reporter she hasn't always felt like studio executives and producers had her back.

"I finally made the decision to stand up for myself (on one film set), and then I went to go to the bathroom at work and one of the producers stopped me and was like, 'You know, we can hear you on the microphone. You’ve been really unruly'," she recalls.

"Basically my job was threatened because the director said something f**ked up to me and I said, 'That’s sick, you can’t talk to me like that!' And then I was punished, and I got afraid that I wasn’t going to be hired again... I was called difficult and a nightmare."

250 People Die Of Snake Bite In Plateau And Gombe Due To Scarcity Of Anti-Venom

Two hundred and fifty victims of snake bite have died in the last three weeks in Plateau and Gombe States, according to a tally given by three medical centres.

The usually preventable deaths followed an acute scarcity of snake anti-venom drugs in the country.

The figure represents the number of confirmed deaths from three snake treatment centres – General Hospital, Kaltungo, Ali Mega Pharmacy, Gombe and Comprehensive Medical Centre, Zamko, Plateau State.

A correspondent of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), who visited the three medical centres, met other victims in critical conditions, with some of them left on bare floor as the doctors said they were helpless without the anti-venom.

NAN reports that the snake anti-venom drugs – Echitab Plus ICP polyvalent and Echitab G monovalent – had not been supplied to the country since August, throwing the treatment centres into crisis after the last vials were used up in the first week of October.

Echitab Plus ICP, produced at Instituto Clodomiro Picado, University of Costa Rica, treats bites from all venomous snakes in Nigeria, while Echitab G, produced by Micropharm Ltd, United Kingdom, is solely for carpet viper bites.

Medics, who spoke with NAN at the three treatment centres, said that the cases of snake bites were usually very common during the harvest season.

“We receive an average of 50 victims every day. Some arrive here in very critical conditions and we just have to watch them die because we are helpless,” Abubakar Abdullahi Aliyu, Managing Director, Aliyu Mega Pharmacy, told NAN in Gombe.
He said that more than 70 victims had died in the last three weeks following the lack of anti-venom to treat them, adding that some came from Adamawa, Taraba, Bauchi, Borno and Plateau States.

“An average of six deaths are recorded daily. If you go to the snake treatment centre at the Kaltungo General Hospital, you will pity the victims; the lucky ones among them get supportive treatment, while many are left to fate since the drugs are not available.

“Between August and October, we received 750 victims. We were given 700 vials of the anti-venom on August 31, but we exhausted them before October. Many people are just dying. It is a major crisis,” he stated.
Aliyu said that the only available drug – Indian anti-venom – was not as effective in the treatment of the bites from carpet vipers, the commonest poisonous snakes in the country.

“We have tried the Indian anti-venom, but it does not elicit much response. Sometimes, we give six vials and more to a patient, but the effect will be minimal. If we had Echitab drugs, one dose is enough to cure a patient,” he said.

The pharmacist urged the Federal Government to promptly step in to assist Echitab Study Group, the outfit coordinating the supply and distribution of the Echitab drugs, so as to make them available.

The Snake Treatment Centre at the Kaltungo General Hospital, Gombe State, equally presented a sorry sight with helpless patients gasping for breath while the medics watched helplessly.

Dr. Abubakar Ballah, the Snakebite Treatment Officer, told NAN that the situation was “sad and scary”.

“We have a serious crisis here. In the last one week, 139 patients were admitted with 77 absconding when we appeared helpless, owing to the non-availability of the anti-snake venom drug.

“Some were unconscious when they were brought here. Sometimes, it is corpses that are brought to us.

“In the last few days, we have recorded 21 deaths. The figure is more because many of those that absconded were in bad shape; many others did not even bother to come here because of the fore-knowledge of lack of anti-venom in the centre.

“The last drug was used on October 13. We try to give vitamin K to the victims to enhance blood clotting in the absence of anti-venom because bites from the viper snakes cause bleeding which is difficult to control without anti-venom.

“It is a critical period, but we are helpless. This is why we call on the government to work with the Echitab Study Group to provide a lasting solution to this menace.

“Already, some criminals are faking the drug and selling it at N43,000 per vial, contrary to the original anti-snake venom sold by the Echitab Study Group at the cost of between N13,500 to N30,000.

“What we must avoid is a situation where desperate people produce fake drugs. We must work toward an effective handling and supply of the drug to guarantee quality and ensure that only genuine drugs are supplied to the treatment centres.’’
He urged government to treat the issue as a national emergency.

“The need for the snake anti-venom should be seen as a security issue with its necessity equated with having an army, customs service, police force and other security agencies.

“The government should work with the Echitab Study Group to have a reliable supply channel; government should subsidise the cost to avoid a major crisis like the one in our hands now, because we find it difficult and embarrassing to explain the situation to our patients.”
NAN found an equally bad situation at the Comprehensive Medical Centre, Zamko, with Dr. Titus Dajel, the Medical Superintendent, stating that more than 200 patients were admitted in October alone.

“There are many victims, but we cannot help because there is no anti-snake venom available now. We have had more than 200 cases in the last one month, with many of them losing their lives.’’

He equally explained that the centre had tried the Indian anti-venom on patients but did not get the desired results because the specifications are different.

“The most effective drug is the Echitab anti-venom which is produced using the venom of snakes from Nigeria,’’ he said.

Dajel regretted that traditional healers had taken advantage of the situation to extort monies from victims after promising to heal them.

“What the herbalists are doing is trial and error. Most victims bleed in the brain because the venom is vicious; traditional healers cannot tackle that because they concentrate on healing the wound,” he explained.

Dajel urged the Federal Government to treat snake bite as a national emergency and take urgent steps to make the anti-snake venom available.

“Continuous importation of the anti-venom is dangerous, especially in view of the rising cost of the dollar. We must look into the possibility of domesticating the production of the drug to avoid constant crisis,” he said.

He explained that the cases of snake bites had become more common in the area because of the ongoing harvest by farmers.

“It is the peak period of snake bites; farmers go to the bush to harvest crops and get attacked by snakes who are out of their holes because of the hot temperature.

“Some snakes go under heaps of rice gathered together preparatory for thrashing, in search of shelter from the scorching sun. Such snakes pounce on farmers when they open the heaps to start thrashing.

“Some snakes also move in groups in search of rats at yam farms where they clash with farmers harvesting the produce,” he said.

Dajel said that the centre had advised farmers to wear protective items like boots and gloves, and urged government agencies charged with public enlightenment to educate farmers on ways to protect themselves against snake attacks.

Mr Tim Golu, member of the House of Representatives representing Pankshin/Kanam/Kanke in Plateau, who also decried the non-availability of the snake anti-venom, said that the situation had been “catastrophic’’ to his constituents.

“We have lost so many people in the past few weeks. As we speak, we have several cases in my own village in Kanke. The comprehensive health centre in Zamko is usually their only hope, but there are no drugs there. It is a huge disaster.

“The shortage of the drug has led to a sharp rise in the prices of other options. It has also led to the production of fake and adulterated vaccines, which have caused deaths and deformities,’’ he said.

He appealed to the federal, states and local governments to intervene by committing funds for the purchase of the anti-venom, and regretted the colossal damage in the past few weeks.

Golu said that he had initiated a bill for the establishment of a National Centre for Research and Production of Snake Vaccines which would soon go through public hearing.
Reacting to the non-availability of the snake anti-venom drug, Dr. Nandul Durfa, Managing Director, Echitab Study Group, Representative of the two companies that produce the anti-snake-venom drug in Nigeria, blamed the situation on the “late placement of order for its production”.

“It is very sad that there is a sudden shortage that culminated in many deaths. The drought is due to technical hitches in the production chain which is being looked into, to prevent a recurrence.

“We have adopted measures to ensure continuous supply of the product and want to ensure that only quality anti-venom drugs are brought to the country. We want to guarantee continued supply so as to avoid the supply of fake anti-venom drugs from multiple supply channels.’’

He said that the federal and state governments, religious bodies, NGOs and individuals had often procured the anti-venom for free distribution to victims and were eagerly waiting for supply “in view of the deadly consequences of the shortage”.

According to him, the Echitab Study Group used to distribute the drug free to patients at the treatment centres, particularly at periods when government stopped financing the supply.

“On few occasions, however, we were forced to charge a little token to cover the cost of transporting the drug to the direct users,’’ he said.

Durfa confirmed that the Echitab Study Group was already working with the Ministry of Health to explore areas of collaboration toward manufacturing the drug locally, via a Public-Private-Partnership (PPP) arrangement.

He declared that snake bite was a menace that must be taken seriously because it was “worse than Ebola, Monkey Pox and even HIV/AIDS”.

“It affects rural dwellers who are major contributors to our GDP through farming, cattle rearing and mining. This is why we believe that even the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development should take interest in the management of snake bites.,” he said.

9 Lies Married Tell To Hit On Women

Married men are all over, roaming and deceiving ladies everywhere.
No, don’t get me wrong, I am a married man but I tell you this for free; we are the most devious and malicious creatures to ever walk this earth. A married man will lie to you without batling a lid to hit on you and eventually win your heart.
Here are 9 lies married men use to hit on you:
1. I am not happy in my marriage.
This is the topmost lie that men lie to woo naive girls into dating them. If he is not happy he should leave, not bringing a sob story to make you swallow the line and hook up. My sister, if he is unhappy you are not his happiness either – abort mission.
2. I will leave her.
You have heard this statement a thousand times from married men. He says he is fed up with his wife and will leave her for you. It’s a lie!
3. I am with her for the sake of the kids.
You’ve already heard this comment gazillion time. He will lie that he is with the wife for the sake of the kids while in the real sense, they are very happily married. Visit his social media accounts and you’ll be met by pictures of a perfect family.
4. I don’t love her.
This is a line that most married men are fond of using. If he doesn’t love her what makes you think he will love you? Wake up girl, he just wants to slide you to the sack!
5. I will marry you.
What makes you believe that he will leave his wife for you? Married men use this lie to lure you into accepting his demands knowing very well that he will never leave his wife for you. The only way to avoid this is to avoid him.
6. We separated just recently.
He will lie to you that he just separated with his wife and they are just co-parenting. He will continue lying to you that he may even consider you the second mother of his kids. Really? Do you buy such crap? I don’t think so.
7. She is not as beautiful as you.
No one hates to be told that they are beautiful, but using this lie to get you is just lame. Everyone is beautiful in their own ways. Sweetie he is just making you feel good so that you fall into his trap head first.
8. We don’t even sleep in the same bed.
This is a lie married men will tell you to make you believe that they are not even sleeping with their wives. He will lie to you that the last time they slept together was before the new millennium. He is lying. Stay woke.
9. I will move out.
He will lie to you that he will find a place for you and leave his matrimonial home. Men use this lie to make you feel that he is more interested in making a future with you. It’s a lie, be wise.
