Why Jose Mourinho gave the 3 finger salute

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho responded to chants from Juventus fans during Tuesday night's Champions League clash by reminding the supporters that he won a treble with Inter in 2010.

The Portuguese steered the Nerazzurri to glory in Serie A, the Coppa Italia, and the Champions League, with Inter becoming the first Italian team to achieve that feat.

The Juve fans took the opportunity to dig at Mourinho in the closing stages of their side's 1-0 win over the Red Devils - a game dominated by the visitors - singing a colourful array of songs.

Mourinho, though, replied in kind, holding up three fingers to remind the supporters that he beat Juve across the board when he was managing in Italy.

"They are not in love with me, the hardest time for them was our treble," he told reporters afterwards.

"For players and technical staff, [head coach Massimiliano] Allegri and [chairman Andrea] Agnelli, I have total respect: they are super polite and friendly."

Mourinho also held up three fingers during United's 2-2 draw with Chelsea in the Premier League at the weekend.

That, of course, was in reference to the league titles Mourinho won during his time in charge at Stamford Bridge.

However, it was somewhat lost among a melee after the final whistle, in which Mourinho reacted to angrily to the actions of a certain member of the Blues' coaching staff.

Marco Ianni, who is a second assistant to Maurizio Sarri, took great delight in seeing Ross Barkley snatch a 2-2 draw in stoppage-time.

He jumped off his seat upon seeing the ball hit the net and made a point of expressing his delight in front of Mourinho, who remained rooted to his bench.

Ianni swung a clenched fist in front of the Portuguese, who did not take kindly to being provoked at such an emotional moment.

Mourinho took off after his rival and had to be held back as players, staff and stewards all bunched together at the entrance to the Chelsea tunnel.

As a result of the confrontation, Ianni received an FA charge while Mourinho was "reminded of his responsibilities".

Nigerians react as Wizkid, TiwaSavage romance in Fever video

Nigerians have taken to social media to react to Tiwa Savage’s performance in the video of Wizkid’s song, “Fever”.

The chemistry between both award-winning music artistes in the video further stoked rumours of a love affair, as they could be seen cozying up to each other in several scenes.

Many commentators queried why Tiwa did not sing as expected, noting that she had turned herself into a video vixen.

In the same vein, some trolls also came for Tiwa Savage’s ex-husband, Tee Billz, who
had described Wizkid as his little brother who could not be romantically linked with his ex-wife.

China XI open World's longest sea crossing bridge and tunnel

China opened the world’s longest sea-crossing bridge and tunnel on Tuesday, linking the financial center of Hong Kong, the gambling hub of Macau and western reaches of the Pearl River Delta at the heart of southern China’s economic boom. The Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge is made up of nearly 35-km (22-mile) of bridge and road sections, and a 6.7 km (4-mile) tunnel between artificial islands to allow shipping to pass unhindered. President Xi Jinping
presided over the inauguration early on Tuesday but said little except to declare the bridge officially open to a burst of fireworks projected onto a screen behind him. Vice premier Han Zheng said the bridge would help drive China’s strategic blueprint for a “Greater Bay Area” around the Pearl River Delta modeled on other global economic dynamos like San Francisco Bay and Tokyo Bay. “Standing at this new historical starting point, we firmly believe that the opening of the bridge will further develop the special advantage of Hong Kong and Macau,” Han said in a speech at the ceremony. The bridge, which snakes across the Pearl River Delta from Hong Kong’s Lantau Island and passes Macau’s glitzy casinos, will begin operations on Wednesday when some bus services begin.

Arrangements are being finalised for trucks and private vehicles will need special permits to use it. According to Chinese media, authorities will use facial recognition systems to detect yawning drivers on the bridge, as a safety measure. If a driver yawns three times, an alarm will go off, media has reported. Hong Kong authorities have defended the bridge’s HK$120 billion ($15.31 billion) price tag, saying it would consolidate Hong Kong’s position as a regional aviation and logistics hub.  Some critics, however, see the bridge as a white elephant that is part of a multi-pronged push by China to exert greater control over Hong Kong, which returned from British to Chinese rule in 1997 amid promises to preserve the city’s high degree of autonomy and individual freedoms denied in mainland China. The bridge was first proposed in the late 1980s, but it was opposed at the time by Hong Kong’s British colonial government, which was wary of development that might draw the city closer to Communist China. The bridge’s opening comes at a challenging time for China as it faces pressure from a trade war with the United States, volatile financial markets, mounting public debt and a slowing economy. President Xi’s visit to the southern economic powerhouse of Guangdong had been shrouded in secrecy, with state media making little mention of his itinerary before he showed up for the bridge opening.

Some media commentators have seen Xi’s trip to Guangdong as an opportunity for Beijing to reaffirm its commitment to economic liberalization. Some point to the apparent symbolism of his visit to the crucible of China’s boom on the 40th anniversary of the launch of its reforms, when it began a transformation from a centrally planned to a market-driven economy with Chinese characteristics.  Xi has come under fire from some businessmen and analysts for his state-centered approach to economic policy and his focus on stability, rather than proactively pushing market liberalization. He said last month, however, that China was still determined to reform and wanted to work with all parties to build an open world economy. He said on Sunday the ruling Communist Party would always support private firms’ development, and any acts to weaken the private economy were wrong, according to the official Xinhua news agency. Some Hong Kong media have dubbed Xi’s trip, his second to Guangdong since taking office in 2012, as a “southern tour”, echoing a high-profile 1992 visit to the special economic zones of the south by former paramount leader Deng Xiaoping. Deng’s trip helped reaffirm China’s commitment to reform after the international condemnation following the 1989 killings of protesters in and around Beijing’s Tiananmen Square. LASU Senior Lecturers Fired for Sexual Assault

The Lagos State University, LASU, on Tuesday confirmed the dismissal of three of its academic staff for sexual harassment and misconduct.

The university’s spokesman, Mr. Ademola Adekoya, said the institution’s Governing Council took the decision at its 119th Statutory Meeting on Oct 4, as recommended by the Joint Council/Senate (Academic) Disciplinary Committee.

Adekoya named the affected staff as Dr Sunkanmi Odubunmi, Associate Professor, Department of Economics, Dr Ajani Ogunwande, Associate Professor, Department of Chemistry.

“Also, Dr. Emmanuel Gbeleyi, Lecturer II, Department of Anatomy, Lagos State University College of Medicine (LASUCOM),
Ikeja, Lagos,” Adekoya said in a statement.

According to him, the council also approved the promotion of 49 Academic Staff and 200 Non-Academic Staff into various positions.

The spokesman said 29 non-academic staff of the university had benefited from an internal recruitment exercise recently conducted by the university.

“They include 18 Administrative Officers II, three Technologists II, four System Analysts, two Academic Planning Officers II and two Industrial Liaison Officers,’’ he said.

Adekoya, however, noted that the current authority of the university by the development had further demonstrated its zero-tolerance for sexual harassment and general indiscipline.

He said the decision of the university was also in line with its drive to continually promote the welfare of both deserving staff and students of the institution.

Dr. Odubunmi and Ogunwande had invited the female students whom they had harassed and failed their courses to their office to write an exam on a Saturday.

The students had reported the lecturers to the university security unit who bombarded them with recorders to trap them in the act.

However, the LASUCOM lecturer, Gbeleyi was reported by two female students who he asked to buy an injection, which he allegedly used to sedate them before he sexually took advantage of them.

EFCC arraigns serial fraudster for defrauding army general N180m

EFCC, on October 8, 2018 arraigned one Mohammed Sanni Zubair, before Justice Ijeoma L. Ojukwu of the Federal High Court, sitting in Maitama, Abuja, on a 4-count charge of fraud.
Zubair, a suspected serial fraudster, was alleged to be a member of a syndicate, who specialized in defrauding people.
The long arm of the law caught Zubair when the children of one Major General Geoffrey Ejiga (retd) petitioned the EFCC alleging that a syndicate of fraudsters took advantage of their father's old age to defraud him of over N180million.
A check on Zubair's profile showed that he had previously been arrested by the operatives of the EFCC sometime in 2016 for a fraud related offence, which he confessed to, saying he acted under the instruction of one Johnson Abiodun, whose real name was Nuhu Kasim.
In the course of investigation, Kasim was arrested in Kano, and it was discovered that the information given by the defendant against him, was completely false. Hence, this charge.
One of the counts reads: "That you, Mohammed Sanni Zubair on or about October 2016, in Abuja, within the Abuja Judicial Division of the Federal High Court of Nigeria, did make a statement to Naziru Aminu Shehu, an officer of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, in the course of the exercise of the duties of his office, contained in your written statement dated 28th October, 2016, which you knew to be false and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 39 (2) (a) and (b) of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (Establishment) Act, 2004".

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the counts preferred against him. In view of his plea, the prosecution counsel, Fatsuma Mohammed, prayed the court for a trial date to enable the prosecution prove its case.
.
But, counsel to the defendant, Joe Agi, SAN, informed the court of the defendant's application for bail, which he said was filed and served on the prosecution shortly before the court started sitting.

Poland pick Nigerian Oil over Russian.. November delivery

Polish oil refiner PKN Orlen expects to receive a first ever shipment of Nigerian crude oil next month, its CEO said, as Poland seeks to reduce its reliance on Russian supplies.
State-run PKN Orlen, Poland’s biggest refiner, and smaller rival Lotos, which it is taking over, rely mostly on Russian oil delivered via pipelines built in the 1960s but both have increased purchases from other sources.
“Nigeria is our new source of supplies we are exploring. Currently, a batch of 130,000 tonnes of Nigerian oil is on its way to Poland. It is expected to arrive at Naftoport (in Gdansk) in mid-October,” PKN’s Chief Executive Daniel Obajtek told Reuters in an interview last week.
“If tests confirm the assumed yields structure and margins, further oil supplies from Nigeria will be a viable option,” he said.
PKN Orlen signed a long-term agreement on regular oil supplies with Saudi Aramco in 2016 and since then both PKN and Lotos have also purchased oil from Iran and the United States.
Oil supplies from Russia account for around 70 percent of all oil deliveries to PKN, down from around 90 percent in 2015.
“There are also tankers sailing to us from other new directions, but at this stage it is too early to talk about it. We are holding discussions on medium- and long-term oil supply contracts with a number of parties, including US partners,” Obajtek also said.
Obajtek said that the deteriorating quality of Russian Urals crude was also prompting PKN to diversify its supplies.
“Generally, the lower quality may impact contract prices, as it affects our yields,” Obajtek said but declined to comment on whether PKN is negotiating new contract prices.
PKN Orlen is taking over Lotos as part of a plan announced in February to improve its negotiating position in oil purchases and to increase investment capacity.
Obajtek said that he hoped to obtain clearance from the European Commission by mid-2019.
“We are in the pre-notification phase and we are preparing to submit a merger clearance application, with some guidance already in place. We intend to file a draft application by the end of the year, which will formally trigger the process of negotiations with the European Commission,” Obajtek said.
