Movies Must Watch Before The End Of May 2017

Movie lovers spent the most of April and better part of May enjoying the Fast paced action of The Fate of the Furious which made it gross an easy $1 billion so far.

Asides the Fast and the Furious, few films were able to garner that much and connect with movie lovers worldwide. Some movies like Colossal and The Circle had less prominent releases but are still worthy of mention.
May however brought a lot of promising movies that were mostly in the background, including some franchise movies that movie lovers have been waiting earnestly for.

King Arthur: Legend of The Sword

The stories of King Arthur has been told time and time again on television and movie screens over the years and King Arthur: Legend of the Sword takes it a step further by providing new updates to the classic story. Charlie Hunnam takes on the role of King Arthur and Àstrid Bergès-Frisbey as Guinevere. The movie is loosely based on the original story and serves as an origin story for Arthur, who is unaware of his royal lineage until he encounters Excalibur. Despite appearing to be a box office fail, making $97.1 million dollars from a budget of $175 million dollars, it is still worthy of view this month given the fact that it has an engaging plot that follows the epic events that happened in the days of Camelot.

Everything, Everything
This romantic drama follows Maddy (Amandla Stenberg), a smart, curious and imaginative 18-year-old who is unable to leave the protection of the hermetically-sealed environment within her house because of an illness which becomes challenging when she falls in love with the boy next door. The movie is an adaptation based on the eponymous 2015 young-adult novel by Nicola Yoon and is sure to elicit tears and deep feelings.

Snatched
Snatched stars Amy Schumer, Oscar winner Goldie Hawn, and Joan Cusack, Ike Barinholtz, Wanda Sykes and Christopher Meloni in supporting roles, follows the story of a mother and daughter who are abducted while on vacation in South America. Goldie Hawn stars as the mother of Schumer’s character, and the pair find themselves kidnapped during a tropical vacation. Directed by Jonathan Levine, the movie is a fast-paced comedy adventure with a lot of humour you’re bound to love.

The Wall
The Wall stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson and John Cena, as Allan “Ize” Isaac and Shane Matthews who find themselves badly injured and forced to take cover behind a crumbling stone wall, while fighting for survival against an unseen sniper who has all of the advantages. What appears to be the selling point of the movie is its director, Doug Liman who is known for directing the science fiction movie, Edge of Tomorrow in 2014. The movie is worth the watch and is bound to keep you at the edge of your seat.

Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2

The first part of this movie proved to everyone that Marvel Studios have a lot of good will from fans for them to risk a sequel with more transformed characters which includes Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Groot and Rocket Raccoon into names movie lovers have come to love. Writer and director James Gunn returned to the helms and continues the story in a way that lives up to its prequel. The first part released in 2014 saw Peter Quill, Gamora, Drax, Rocket, and Baby Groot live up to their roles as Guardians of the Galaxy and this continues with more fun and excitement as new characters are added.

Alien: Covenant

Director, Ridley Scott known for Gladiator and the first part of the movie Prometheus, makes his way back to the series that started way back in the late 1970’s. This part follows the crew of the Covenant as it lands on an uncharted planet, where unspeakable terror is unleashed. Michael Fassbender and Noomi Rapace reprise their roles from the prequel, with the former playing the role of a new android, alongside Katherine Waterston, Billy Crudup, Jussie Smollet and Danny McBride who all provide a movie that is bound to captivate you.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales 

The last movie from the franchise, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides grossed over $1 billion at the worldwide box office gross, which signalled the fact that Johnny Depp’s Captain Jack Sparrow was far from done with going on adventures and pillaging on the high-seas. Six years on, and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales (Salazar’s revenge) makes its way back to the cinemas. Javier Bardem plays the role of the villainous Captain Salazar, just as Orlando Bloom makes his way back as Will Turner. This part recaptures the magic that made us all fall in love with the franchise.

The father of five says his friends have nicknamed him Mr Obama and he has been mistaken for the real Obama for ten years. He said:

There appears to be room in the "6" for both Drake and Tory Lanez after all. On Thursday night (May 18), fans of the two artists were left dumbfounded when images of Lanez and Drake standing alongside each other were posted to both artist's social media accounts, dismissing any rumors of the tandem's ongoing beef.

"The city needs more of this and less of that," Drake captioned the photo of him and the "LUV" rapper, while Lanez wrote "Toronto... I Told You" on his respective post.

Meet 52-Year-Old Woman Who Says She Is A Virgin And Has Never Kissed Before

At a social cohesion dialogue about virginity, organized by eThekwini Municipality at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on Tuesday night

Here’s what she said;

“ Even at my age, I still go to Umkhosi woMhlanga.
“ I began this journey when I was 14 years old . I get a lot of people criticising me for being a virgin and not having children . Some even tell me I will die a lonely woman. But that does not make me want to change my life.”



Thembisile said she has never slept with a man or even kissed one . She also said she is one of the most respected women in Botha’ s Hill .

“ I ’m the lastborn at home . My eight siblings got married and left me with my brother’s two children.
She said when she was young she heard her brothers’ friends saying bad things about the girls they’d had sex with .
“ I decided then I didn ’t want to be one of those girls ,” she said.
She said each time there is virginity testing in her area, she is always the first one in line.
“ I don’t care if I die without children or a husband . I’m happy with my life and so is my family.”
During the conference , where virgins and virginity testers discussed the importance of purity, one of the ‘testers’ Zanele Shezi- Sishi said it’s important for women to look after themselves .
“ Staying a virgin helps to avoid infections and disease”, head of recreation at eThekwini Municipality , Thembinkosi Ngcobo , said they chose the topic because too many girls fall pregnant at an early age.

Young Lady Commits Suicide In Ajuwon, Lagos By Drinking Sniper (Photo)

Tragedy struck in the Ajuwon area of Lagos State on Wednesday May 17, at Bada Hospital at Bale road, when a young lady said to be in her late 20’s committed suicide by drinking sniper insecticide.
The lady, identified as Patience Akpan, was said to have left her father’s place that Wednesday afternoon before she was seen in another street within the area wringing in pains, with the sniper bottle still in her hands.

Her dad is said to be a driver who works with a bank on Ajuwon/Akute road.

According to an eye witness, on the day of her suicide, Patience was seen on Oni Street around Ajuwon, on the floor and in pains before she was rushed to the hospital where she later died.

She had lived in the area with her parents about 12 years ago but when her parents separated, she left with her mum, only to come back that Tuesday and committed suicide the next day.

Angry Indian girlfriend kidnaps her ex at gunpoint during his wedding to new lover

A spurned Indian girlfriend gave new meaning to the saying 'hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.' Her ex Ashok Yadav, left her for another woman but she didn't let the matter slide. He was happily tying the knot with his new love when his former flame burst in with six armed men, bundled him into the back of a waiting car and sped away as hundreds of guests watched on in horror.

Ashok and the aggrieved woman were in a relationship before breaking it off early last year after which his patents set him up with another woman and they got engaged.

When the ex-lover heard he was getting married, she pleaded with him repeatedly not to go through with it and even tried to get his parents to call it off, according to police.  A police official involved in the investigation told said: 'The armed men took Ashok at gunpoint and threatened him to accompany them.

'After bundling him on the rear seat of a car, they sped away.' Police located him 24hrs after he was abducted.  A complaint is yet to be filed. 

Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte Has Banned Smoking In Public

As part of his war against drug dealings in the country, Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte has signed an executive order imposing a nationwide smoking ban in public places.

The executive order which was signed by the President on Tuesday was announced by the Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea on Thursday.

'There shall be no opening that will allow air to escape from the designated smoking areas to the smoke-free area of the building or conveyance, except for a single door equipped with an automatic door closer.'

'The designated smoking area shall not be located within 10 metres from entrances, exits or any place where people pass or congregate or in front of air intake ducts.' the order said.

The order includes playgrounds, sporting areas, sidewalks, schools, workplaces, government offices, restaurants and carries a maximum penalty of four months in jail and a fine of 5,000 pesos ($100) if anyone is caught violating the order.

However, Duterte was a heavy smoker but had to quit when he was diagnosed with Buerger's disease, which can cause blockages in the blood vessels.

According to Reuters, the ban is one of the region’s strictest anti-tobacco laws which is expected to impact on an estimated 17 million Filipino smokers.

When she was in Primary Six, two visitors came calling at Immaculata Onuigbo’s school in Enugu. They were from the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Foundation, Abuja.

On Friday night, she bagged six awards including the Afrinvest (West Africa) Award for Academic Excellence that includes a paid internship at any of the company’s subsidiaries.

But the valedictorian’s journey to the zenith of academic excellence did not come without challenges.

She recalls the days in secondary school when she’d be left in tears while watching the retreating back of her parents, in Abuja, back to Enugu, while she continued on her way back to Yola.

“The first challenge was language barrier,” she said.

The AUN uses the American grading system where 4.0 is the highest possible Cumulative Grade Points Average (CGPA). To finish Summa Cum Laude (the equivalent of the Nigerian First Class: 4.50 – 5.00), a student has to score between 3.9 and 4.0.

Ms. Onuigbo scored 3.98.

She said her ambition is to be a university professor.
“For a while, I wasn’t really sure of what I wanted to do after university but like I said before, Honours Society helps students that are academically challenged and all.

LASPOTECH Student, Damilola Adegoke has reportedly committed suicide by drinking insecticide

A student of Business administration at Lagos State Polytechnic (LASPOTECH), Damilola Adegoke has reportedly committed suicide by drinking an insecticide, Sniper.

Details as to why she took her own life are still sketchy but it was gathered that on Tuesday, her mum came back home to find her daughter lying on the floor with a sniper.

Friends of the deceased have expressed shock over her sudden death on facebook.

One wrote; "No matter the circumstances, worries, troubles, disaster never look down on your self and always pray hard. It's a pity this tight friend of mine Damilola Adegoke took snipper yesterday and gave up the ghost after uploading her pics on fb. May her soul rest in peace".

Another friend, Damilola Ayanwanle said; "No amount of problem worth taking your own life , she was hardworking and highly dedicated but only her knows her personal pains and challenges, maybe she shared and you and I couldnt help her out ........ in fact nothing justify eating a poison, well farewell Damilola Adegoke we will remember you forever".

7 Reasons we should stop killing snakes

Most people sees Snakes as an enemy to humanity, they hate them with the whole of their heart. Thus, they think the best way to stop them from killing us all is to kill them all off. They forgot that Snakes are important animals that helps keep our natural ecosystems working.

This days in Nigeria, killing snake(s) is like winning Grammy. No thanks to Nairaland and its popular Super-Mod, Lalasticlala, whom love for Snake matters knew no bound.

I think we all should LEARN to live with them, 'cos soon, our lives may depend on them.

Here, I present to you 7 reasons you should STOP killing snakes:

1. Snakes Do Not Ordinarily Attack Humans.
Though, some snakes possess venom potent enough to cause painful injury or death to humans, Snakes do not ordinarily prey on humans. Unless startled or injured, most snakes prefer to avoid contact and will not attack humans. So why kill the INNOCENT animals?



2. Snakes Could Save Your Life Tomorrow.
Snake venoms are being researched as a potential treatment for cancers, diabetes, stroke, kidney problems, high blood pressure, heart failures, and even creating painkiller that are more powerful and effective than morphine, Anti-ageing drugs, e.t.c.

3. They Help Us Keep The Rodents Population in Control.
Most snakes feeds mice, rats, and other small mammals that can destroy crops or damage personal property. Without snakes, we would be completely overrun by these nuisance rodents. Remember LASSA fever?

4. They Also Helps In Insect Control Too.
Small snakes feed on bugs and insects. Most of which are harmful to us. So why kill our SAVIOURS?

5. They Help Us Keep Famine Away; Pest are crops enemy, but snakes may save us from them. Remember the Tomato Ebola?

6. They Help Us Minimize Rodent and Insect Spread Diseases and/or Infections; since they prey on them.

7. They Are Food To Other Animals Too; Remember, Without snakes, some animals may starve to death.

Lecturer Brutalized By Soldiers For Answering A Phone Call At Checkpoint (Photos)

Maybe you are wondering if he is a bokoharam terrorist undergoing punishment. No my brother he is not. This is an innocent Father and husband who did nothing wrong but to answer just a phone call at army checkpoint. The lecturer as I later found out simply ask the soldiers who ask him to submit his handset and go just because he was seen answering call inside the vehicle to show him where its warned that no one should answer call here. He was tortured, strip and our vehicle was ordered to go leaving the victim behind….
My take…. Am not a security expert, maybe that is why i don’t know why there are army checkpoints at almost every kilometer in the south east area of this country? What is happening? Why are people of south east being subjected to military brutality of all sort. What is wrong In answering calls inside a moving vehicle. Have u been to Abia state recently to see how soldiers has suddenly turn to relationships Messiahs. Any little misunderstanding between two lovers, soldiers will storm in and beat the hell out of the guy. Of course we know how bags of rice of Igbos returning for Xmas were seized last year December and justice were not in sight.



Me and other concerned compatriots had in so many media platforms decried the unnecessary extortion of motorist from these same soldiers on checkpoints in south east. If there is anywhere that multiple checkpoint is needed in Nigeria it should be at the North where there is serious security challenges.
