Demi Lovato took history-making Virginia state legislator Danica Roem as her date to the American Music Awards on Sunday night (19Nov17).
Roem recently became the first transgender state legislator in the U.S. and she was rewarded by a big night out in Los Angeles.
Hitting the red carpet outside the Microsoft Theater on Sunday afternoon, Demi confessed she'd only met Danica minutes before at their hotel, but she was thrilled to be at the ceremony with a history maker.
"My performance is all about bullying and Danica has proven you can rise above that," she said. "It's great to meet her."
The politician, who clinched a House of Delegates election victory on 7 November (17), was also thrilled to meet the singer, adding, "She gives a voice to people who need a voice."
