Apple (AAPL) to Cut iPhone Production 10% in Q1 2017
This would be the second year in a row for cuts. In last year's first quarter, the company cut production due to excess inventory of the iPhone 6s at the end of 2015.
This coming quarter data suggests production cuts in both the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus. While the iPhone 7 Plus is popular with customers, a shortage of camera sensors has impacted the company's ability to meet demand, the report said.

Court sentences son of former House of Reps member to death by hanging
A High court sitting in Katsina State has sentenced 32 year old Mu’ammar Tukur, son of former House of Representatives member and District Head of Bakori, to death by hanging for culpable homicide.
Tukur was dragged before the court for using a knife to stab one Shafir Muktar to death on April 21st 2008 during a fight between him and some other young men at a football viewing center.
Delivering judgment in the case today, the presiding judge, Justice Abbas Bawale, said the argument put forward by the convict's counsel, AbdulAziz Olagoke, were unsustainable.
Bawale said that the accused went into hiding between 2008 and 2013 after committing the crime and was arrested at the grave yard during the funeral of his deceased mother.
He added that Tukur's explanation that he was provoked to commit the crime was not satisfactory because he left the scene and came with the metallic instrument to commit the crime.
The judge said the prosecution had proved the case beyond reasonable doubt as required by law and sentenced the convict to death by hanging. He stressed that the plea for leniency could not be entertained because the court’s discretion was blocked by law and directed that the plea should be set to the state governor.

The Big Brother Naija (BBN) will return in January 2017, according to John Ugbe, the Managing Director, MultiChoice Nigeria.
Ugbe told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Wednesday that the return of the reality
show was based on popular demand by people who wanted it back.
He said “the show has been well developed following the successes of past seasons of Big Brother Africa.
“The Big Brother Africa is popular for its entertainment value and ability to showcase ordinary Africans from different walks of life.
“It is one of the ways the company is enhancing quality and varieties of contents available on its platforms. We decided to re-invent BBA, the reality show, once again by bringing back the Nigerian version.
“We are confident that it will draw pan-African audiences for the same reasons that Big Brother Africa did.”
NAN reports that auditions for Big Brother Naija will hold in Lagos on Nov. 26 and Nov. 27, 2016.
After a 10-year hiatus, BBN is coming back to educate, entertain and inform Nigerian audience about the culture and multi tasking jobs carried out in the show.
The return of the BBN reality TV show was based on the Big Brother Africa TV series.
The Big Brother Naija show will be aired on dedicated event channels on DStv and GOtv in January 2017.
The first edition of the show, after screening, saw 12 housemates vying for the coveted 100,000-dollar prize money by performing various mental and physical tasks.
At the end of the three-month stay in the house, Katung Aduwak emerged winner.
The show also produced other notable stars like Africa Magic’s Tinsel actor, Gideon Okeke, and TV personality, Ebuka Obi-Uchendu

An Open Letter To Black Santa: Give ‘Em Hell
Dear Black Santa,
As a little black girl from the South, all I ever saw was white, rosy-cheeked Santa Clauses plastered on Christmas posters and gluttonously eating all the milk and cookies on those propagandized holiday commercials. I never saw him for more than what he was – fiction.
He was another white fictional character sent to save the day, bring holiday cheer, and give to the poor little children. Someone reminiscent of white Jesus, or Batman.
I didn’t grow up in a household that pushed the whole Santa narrative, and I wasn’t tormented with the “naughty or nice list.” Perhaps my parents did not like the idea of a white man being seen as a superior being or something. My presents always said from Mom, Dad, Auntie, Grandma and so forth. As far as I knew, my presents were not the result of some jolly, corpulent, white man shimmying down a chimney but, I digress.
You see, I’ve decided to believe in you Black Santa, not because you too are being used as a promotional tool in one of the biggest capitalist holidays, but because of what you represent.

Magnitude 7.7 quake strikes Chile, tsunami warning removed
Officials removed a tsunami warning after a magnitude 7.6 earthquake struck 225 km (140 miles) southwest of Puerto Montt in southern Chile on Sunday, prompting an evacuation order for southern coastal areas.
The U.S.-based Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said the tsunami warning was no longer in place for the area after earlier issuing one for areas within 1,000 km (621 miles) of the epicenter of the quake.

The quake's depth was about 34.6 km (21.5 miles), the U.S. Geological Survey said. According to media reports, the quake was felt in the southwest Argentine city of Bariloche.

Moscow, dec 25 (reuters) - a russian military plane carrying 92 people, including dozens of red army choir singers, dancers and orchestra members, crashed into the black sea on its way to syria on sunday, killing everyone on board, russian authorities said.
The russian defence ministry said one of its tu-154 tupolev planes had disappeared from radar screens at 0525 msk (0225 gmt), two minutes after taking off from sochi in southern russia, where it had stopped to refuel from moscow, on its way to syria.
Major-general igor konashenkov, a ministry spokesman, told reporters that nobody had survived.
"the area of the crash site has been established. No survivors have been spotted," he said. An unnamed ministry source told russian news agencies no life rafts had been found, while another source told the interfax agency that the plane had not sent an sos signal.

Zimbabwe ships live elephants to wildlife parks in China
More than 30 wild elephants were being readied on Friday evening for an airlift from Zimbabwe to captivity in China, according to wildlife advocates.
The founder of Zimbabwe Conservation Task Force, Johnny Rodrigues, said on Friday that their plane was still at Victoria Falls airport because officials could not find scales big enough to weigh the animals, which were confined inside heavy crates.
But once that was accomplished, he added, “they’re gone”. Some of the elephants are reportedly as young as three years of age.
The live export of elephants is controversial, although legal. Wildlife advocates argue that elephants are do not belong in captivity and the practice of wild capture disrupts the social structure of their herds.

Photos: Libyan plane with118 people on board hijacked & diverted to Malta
A Libya internal flight with 118 people on board was hijacked by two people on Friday and diverted to Malta where it landed. The two hijackers had threatened to blow up the Airbus A320, the Times of Malta said. The aircraft had been flying from Sebha in southwest Libya to Tripoli for state-owned Afriqiyah Airways.
The tiny Mediterranean island of Malta is about 500 km (300 miles) north of the Libyan coast.
Maltese Prime Minister Joseph Muscat tweeted: "Informed of potential hijack situation of a #Libya internal flight diverted to #Malta. Security and emergency operations standing by -JM An update said the two hijackers are pro-Gaddafi supporters armed with hand grenades. Their demands are not known yet. China returns seized US underwater drone
According to Chinese and US officials, the Chinese government has returned the US underwater drone it seized last week in the South China Sea.
"After friendly consultations between China and the United States, the transfer of the US underwater drone was smoothly completed," a statement from the Chinese Ministry of Defense said.
The Pentagon said the United States would continue to investigate the "unlawful" seizure, which took place in international waters about 50 miles northwest of Subic Bay in the Philippines.
"The US remains committed to upholding the accepted principles and norms of international law and freedom of navigation and overflight and will continue to fly, sail, and operate in the South China Sea wherever international law allows, in the same way that we operate everywhere else around the world," the Pentagon said in a statement.
China has built up military bases in the South China Sea, which is home to a tense territorial dispute
